Short Pours: Yuengling Beer Run Part 2

Brett Myces' Yuengling run
A little bit of sibling rivalry is always a good thing, and I wasn't about to let older brother K. E. Myces upstage me on his recent Yuengling beer run. So I went on a little Yuengling run myself. I skipped work at noon on a Friday and started driving south. While soul-searching with the cruise control on, I was trying to figure out why Arkansas was the first state west of the Mississippi River to get Yuengling. I mean, Arkansas is such a great beer drinking state that 34 counties are dry, while Missouri has absolutely ZERO dry counties. So Yuengling if you are reading this, KCBeerBlog wants you to come visit Missouri.

As the state line neared I took a pit stop to ask for directions to the nearest Arkansas liquor store, aiming to acquire my Yuengling booty (there are no smart phones in the Myces house). I arrived at 9:03 p.m. just after the liquor store had closed. Yet another reason, Missouri is the better beer state find me a Missouri liquor store that closes at 9 p.m. on a Friday.  After cussing myself for wasting three minutes asking for directions I looked up, and to my amazement, I saw a Casey's across the street. I rubbed my eyes to make sure it wasn't a mirage, then scurried over as fast as possible. Luckily, it was a new Casey's with a walk-in beer cooler, and I made them an offer. I would buy 16 cases of Yuengling and they would throw in a free piece of pizza. They didn't think I was serious until I also asked to borrow a rolling cart. I paid the tab after my credit card company called me to make sure it was me spending $500 at Casey's, ate my pizza, and loaded up the trunk. I got the usual awkward glances sprinkled in with a few atta-boys, then was on my way home. So brother K. Myces, I'll see your 8 cases and raise you 16.

Cheers,
Brett A. Myces
