The Weekend Planner - 6/5/2015

Just wanted to highlight a few standout events this weekend! As usual, we've got a full list of everything going on over on our KC Beer Calendar page!

Flying Saucer 20th Anniversary Party - Tonight

Flying Saucer is hosting their 20th Anniversary party tonight starting at 5p! Now if you're counting back 20 years on your fingers right now, I'm gonna go ahead and help you: no, they haven't been in PNL for 20 years. They're going way back to when they opened their first location in Fort Worth in 1995. They'll be toasting some Sierra Nevada beer at 7p to mark the first beer tapped at the original restaurant location.

Throughout the night, they're going to have throwback pricing specials on Boulevard, Sierra Nevada, Breckenridge & Sam Adam's beers. They're also going to have special tappings throughout the night, rare beers available, and giveaways.

Get Ripped Festival at Big Rip - Tomorrow

Get Ripped Brew Fest this Saturday 1-5p
This Saturday is the second time Big Rip will have put on their mini-festival. The fest last year was one of my all time favorites. It was super laid back, no lines anywhere, plenty of time to chill, chat with folks, catch some rays, listen to the band, and drink some great beer. Speaking of catching rays, it looks like the weather forecast for tomorrow looks great. And for the stray thunderstorm that might roll through (because, you know, it's 2015 and there has to be a thunderstorm somewhere in the metro every day), all of the brewery booths are under a big tent, so it won't matter much anyways!

The fest runs from 1p-5p. You can get your tickets online for $30, or $35 at the door tomorrow. There's going to be breweries, distilleries, and wineries there, live music from the Three Dollar Band, food trucks and tacos from El Burrito Loco. If you're looking for some relaxing afternoon drinking this weekend, I highly recommend this fest!

Cards Against Humanity Tournament at Bier Station - Monday

Ok, so this isn't really on the weekend, but we're going to go ahead and call this a stretch weekend this week because this is too good to pass up. Bier Station, Mother's Brewing, and Central States Bev are teaming up for their second annual Cards Against Humanity Tournament! The tournament will be held Monday & Tuesday from 6p-8p. The winners from Monday and Tuesday nights will be called back on Wednesday night for the title. To sign up, you can drop by Bier Station in person and let the bartenders know that you'd like to sign up, or you can head over to the facebook page and post your info on this thread.

If you win, you don't only walk away with the satisfaction of knowing you have the most twisted mind--the winner gets two spots on the Bus to Mother's trip!

There's also going to be a bunch of specialty Mother's beer on tap. Given that Mother's is one of the best breweries in the region, this is reason enough to go down there even if you're not playing. And a portion of all the Mother's beer sales during the tournament will also be going towards KC Pet Project.

Specialty Mother's Beers on Tap:

Red Rover (golden ale with raspberries)
Pulp Fiction (blood orange saison)
Skip Day (session IPA)
Chocolate Thunder (chocolate nitro porter)
Cukes Not Nukes (cucumber saison)
Man From Dunkel (dunkel)
Lil Helper (IPA)
Towhead (blonde ale)
Three Blind Mice (brown ale)
