Schlafly/Good You Beer Dinner at Czar

With the steadily rising frequency of beer dinners in Kansas City, I've avoided dedicated posts about most of them because it seems more appropriate to simply place in the Bar Buzz calendar. However, Thursday's Schlafly beer dinner at Czar is a bit special, and it seemed like one worth pointing out for a couple reasons.

For starters, this is Schlafly's first recent shot at a dedicated beer dinner in Kansas City. They were part of the I-70 Showdown Beer Dinner at Beer Kitchen earlier this year, but this is the first time in a while that they get the chance to truly shine on their own as a brewery and highlight just their lineup of beers through pairings.

Second, their beers will be paired with food from Good You. If you aren't familiar with Good You, they originally started in early 2011 as a food truck, or in their own words, a 'mobile organic eatery.' They found quite a bit of success in the meals on wheels game, and in April 2012, Crossroads bar and music venue Czar unveiled a new menu designed by Good You Chef Kelli Daniels (who was previous the executive chef at The Drop).

Now when you hear organic, don't think that Good You just offers up a bunch of hoity-toity, glorified health food. Some of their current offerings at Czar include the KC's Best Burger, which is their special twist on the Big Mac (grass-fed beef, special sauce, lettuce and cheese on a sesame seed brioche bun) and a Philly sandwich made with a Boulevard Pilsner/cheddar 'Cheez Whiz.'

For the beer dinner with Schlafly, they are raising the food bar even higher and offering up unique menu items like duck confit with sweet potato hash, endive and apple salad with praline pecans, and a pan fried oyster with bacon-preserved tomato tapenade. Throw in a final 'breakfast for dessert' course of petite french toast, candied bacon, grilled apples and dark chocolate anglaise aaaand yeah. My mouth is watering.

Schlafly beers being presented as pairings include Pilsner, Biere de Garde, the new Tasmanian IPA, and Coffee Stout. Schlafly's Special Release Christmas Ale (which is one of my favorite winter seasonals) will also be served up as a welcoming beer.

Tickets for the 11/15, 6:30pm event are $40 for four paired courses plus the welcoming beer (full menu information can be seen in the image below), and can be purchased online here.
