Deschutes Base Camp week - Kansas City

We already told you about the Hats Off to Homebrewers event that Deschutes will be holding in Kansas City as part of their Base Camp week. But now that the rest of the events have been released, I can assure you that it's merely a drop in the bucket of what is sure to be an exciting week of beer, food, fun and education courtesy of our friends from Bend.

Here is the full list of events that will be a part of Deschutes Base Camp week in Kansas City. There is certainly no shortage of things to do, and with events happening each day for six straight days (and multiple events in one day in some cases), there's no reason for anyone to not make it to at least one. There will be multiple chances to try the new Black Butte XXIV, plus other rare/new beers like Collage and Obsidian Stout on nitro.

So feast your eyes on this schedule and wipe the drool from your chin as you decide how to spend your time during the first ever Deschutes Base Camp week in Kansas City.

Monday, July 30th


Base Camp Kickoff - Grinders West
8 pm - 11 pm

We’re launching Deschutes Brewery’s week-long celebration off all things craft beer, Kansas City Base Camp. We’ll have details on all the week’s happenings, plus be serving up the easy drinking goodness of Mirror Pond Pale Ale, a beer that serves as a “base camp” of sorts for beer fanatics everywhere. Also look for the brewery’s flagship Black Butte Porter, summer seasonal Twilight Summer Ale and the brand-new Chainbreaker White IPA. Come hang out with the gang from Deschutes, including brewer Eric Moore, and their sidekick – the giant beer barrel on wheels, Woody. Don’t miss live music from local favorites The New Riddim from 8-11pm.

Hats Off To Homebrewers Night - Amigoni Urban Winery
6 pm - 9 pm

You are invited to the deluxe Amigoni Urban Winery for a night of tasty brews expertly paired with hometown favorite eats Oklahoma Joe’s, Swagger, Green Dirt Farm, and Farm To Market. The evening features a couple of real rock star brewers from both breweries to talk everything from attenuation to zymurgy. Local homebrewer Pancho Luna will lead a spirited “Stump The Brewer” Q & A session as well. Samples served into your own commemorative snifter seal the deal.

Deschutes Brewery Beer Trivia - Flying Saucer

Want to keep the party going after the Hats Off to Homebrewers event at Amigoni or just need a little late night Tuesday fun? Well, here’s your chance. Enjoy some late night beer trivia about Boulevard Brewing Company and Deschutes Brewery to claim trivia master glory, plus a few cool prizes and tons of great beer from both breweries. Deschutes Brewery’s anniversary beer, Black Butte XXIV, will make its Missouri debut tonight, bringing all its Imperial porter goodness with it.

Build Your Own Tailgate - Hy-Vee (109 N Blue Jay Dr., Liberty, MO)

Ever wondered how to cook with beer? Here’s a secret: it’s a great way to create your favorite tailgate snacks. Football season is right around the corner and Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery wants you to be prepared. Hy-Vee Chef Mark Prece will be demonstrating how to make spectacular, game-winning snacks like BBQ meats made with Black Butte Porter, mustard made with Mirror Pond Pale Ale, cheese dip made with Twilight Summer Ale and brats made with Inversion IPA. Best thing about cooking with beer? You get to sample as you go! The gang from Deschutes Brewery, including brewer Eric Moore, will also be on hand to talk about about all things craft beer.

$5 gets you 4 beer samples and 4 food samples.


Women and Craft Beer Ice Cream Social - Waldo Pizza

Do you love ice cream? Of course you do! Do you love craft beer? We know you do – especially when it is paired with ice cream. Waldo Pizza’s own ice cream creator, Heather Rama, will be creating four ice creams from scratch using beer from Deschutes Brewery such as Black Butte Porter, Chainbreaker White IPA, Nitro Obsidian Stout and The Stoic. The ideal girls’ night out – topped off by a special screening of The Love of Beer documentary about women in the beer industry.

The perfect post-work gathering is underway! Part of Deschutes Brewery’s multi-day celebration of all things craft beer – dubbed Base Camp Week – we’ll have an award-winning line-up of brews: Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Twilight Summer Ale, Inversion IPA, Black Butte XXIII and The Stoic. Pair them up with some locally made cheeses and you have the best way to ease into the weekend.


Build Your Own Kegerator - Royal Liquors (103rd & State Line)
5:30 pm - 7 pm

You know you’ve been there: jealously inspecting a friend’s home kegerator while at a birthday party or other raucous gathering. Why not make your own and become the talk of the town? Beer drinking, beer pouring and beer making experts from Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery will be on hand to provide some finely balanced discussion of these important issues. Have a chat with them (they are here from Oregon for “Base Camp Week”, an event created just for beer fanatics) while enjoying some locally made food paired with beers like Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Twilight Summer Ale, Inversion IPA, The Abyss, The Stoic and Black Butte XXIII.

What’s better than an evening full of craft beer from Deschutes Brewery? An evening full of craft beer, coupled with a sexy Burlesque show at The Riot Room! The ladies of the night will showcase five different Deschutes Brewery beers throughout the night, including the cornerstone brew that is Mirror Pond Pale Ale, plus Black Butte Porter, Chainbreaker White IPA, Hop in the Dark Cascadian Dark Ale and a special Reserve Series beer. A $5 admission fee includes five beer samples and a full-length Burlesque show. The weekend has begun, and what better way to start it off than with some awesome locally prepared food and beer samples from Deschutes Brewery? They’ll be pouring favorites like Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Twilight Summer Ale, Inversion IPA, The Abyss, The Stoic and the very rare Collage, Deschutes Brewery’s two-year-in-the-making collaboration with Hair of the Dog Brewing.


Local's Night with Deschutes Brewery - All Star Pizza & Pub

We love you Kansas City. And what better way to celebrate YOU than with locals’ night at All Star – live music from Cherry Bomb, great specials and menu items made from Deschutes Brewery beer. The Oregon brewery is visiting with their giant beer barrel, Woody, who will be serving up beers like Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Twilight Summer Ale, Inversion IPA, Hop in the Dark Cascadian Dark Ale and a couple of surprises, including one of the first chances to taste Deschutes’ rare anniversary brew, Black Butte XXIV.

Dog Days of Summer  - McCoy's/The Foundry/Beer Kitchen
2 pm - 6 pm

Holy craft beer and puppies! Deschutes Brewery is in town from Oregon and they’re wrapping up their Kansas City Base Camp Week (a multi-day craft beer celebration) with panache. They’ll be pouring an unreal lineup of beers from their giant traveling beer barrel including: Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Twilight Summer Ale, Inversion IPA, Chainbreaker White IPA, Hop in the Dark Cascadian Dark Ale, Horse Ridge IPA, Nitro Obsidian Stout and Black Butte XXIII. Also joining the lineup will be Deschutes Brewery’s limited anniversary brew for 2012, Wayside Waifs, Kansas City’s Largest No-Kill Pet Adoption Center. Plus the sounds of a DJ spinning sick beats in the parking lot. Tasty beer. Good cause. Come on down!
