Beer for the Weekend - Avery Joe's Premium American Pilsner

Ichiro is one of my 5 favorite baseball players for many reasons, not the least of which is because at one time his favorite American expression was "Kansas City in August is hotter than 2 rats in a f***ing wool sock". Unfortunately for us this weekend, that expression is also true for mid-July. You're probably not going to want to drink any of that Stone Imperial Russian Stout you bought. Collaboration #2 might be nice and refreshing, but you're not going to pop that open at 2 in the afternoon or when the heat is at its hottest. You're going to want something lighter and refreshing.

That's why the beer for the weekend is Avery Joe's Premium American Pilsner. Joe's Pilsner is new to town and only comes in cans. You can take it out to your neighborhood pool (not city pools) or sip it while sitting in your backyard kiddie pool. Nothing goes quite as well with the heat of summer like a good pilsner and I'm hoping Joe's Premium American Pilsner is the perfect antidote for the wool sock that is Kansas City in mid-July.

  1. I thought the saying was, "Hotter than two rats f**king in a wool sock"...

  2. In the video he says it the way I quoted it. The saying could very well be the other way around, but that's not what Ichiro said. I've never heard anyone else say it.

  3. Could we get a review of the best beers in a can? Have you done one already?

    My list so far:
    1) Halcyon Wheat
    2) Modus Hoperandi
    3) Schlafly Summer
    4) ????????

  4. Best beer in a can is the craft brewer that started the whole 'craft beer in a can' craze. Dale's Pale Ale by Oskar Blues!

  5. Wheach is the king of all canned beers.

  6. Avery IPA is also now available in cans which makes it a top 5er. I would go Halcyon, Modus, Avery IPA, Oasis, Caldera IPA. Schlafly Summer is in the mix for number 6 but I could easily be talked out of it especially after I try the other Avery canned beers. And I'm only including beers available in the KC market.

  7. Don't forget anderson valley. They do some great stuff in cans.. now if we could only get surly, oskar blues, and 21st amendment.

  8. King of can beers is definitely Oskar Blue's TenFIDY followed by...
    2) Maui Coconut Porter
    3) Surly Coffee Blender/Furious
    4) Modus Hoperandi
    5) Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat
Can't wait to try 21st Amendment canned beers from San Fran

  9. I would go:

    1. TenFIDY (agree with Josh, I don't think it is even close).
    2. Caldera IPA
    3. Surly Abrasive
    4. Modus Hoperandi
    5. Maui Coconut Porter

If I have to stick to KC market I probably add Buffalo Sweat Avery IPA and Caldera Amber at 3, 4 and 5.

  10. You left out Fat Cat.
