Yard House Opens today in the Power and Light Distrct
Yard House is hoping to cash in on Kansas City’s insatiable thirst
for craft beer. Opening today at 5pm in
the Power and Light District, Yard House features 130 taps. While the opening menu does have several taps
for the Bud-Miller-Coors drinkers, it also features 30 beers from Kansas and
Missouri. The beer menu is largely
static, with all ordering and menu changes going through corporate offices in
California, but does offer 5 rotating taps, which included Cinder Block Brandy Barrel Aged Collapse, Schlafly Milk Chocolate Stout, and 4 Hands War
Hammer at opening. All beers are offered in regular and smaller pours and many are available in enormous half yard pours.
Yard House's newest space is expansive with a 45 seat bar in the middle of the restaurant. TVs circle both the bar and outer wall and are visible from everywhere in the restaurant. The keg room sits above the back of the restaurant, and draft lines cross the restaurant to the bar.
It’s easy to draw comparisons between Yard House and Flying Saucer,
a mere 1 block apart. Both offer large
tap selections, though Flying Saucer’s 76 taps
rotate more frequently than Yard House’s 130.
A large bottle selection at Flying Saucer helps them keep the edge with
respect to beer. On the other hand, Yard
House has the edge when it comes to food.
The menu at Yard House features a wide variety of entrees and appetizers, and offers happy hour food and drink specials.
Yard House probably won't lure me away from Flying Saucer when I'm looking for a new beer downtown, but it just might get me in there for lunch or happy hour.
