Short Pours - 11/11/13

Strong Ale Fest This Weekend

Save $5 and buy your ticket to the festival in advance! There is a million reasons why you should be going to one of Kansas City's best beer festivals this weekend, here are a few.

  • Boulevard's Nutsack, the super dry hopped version of Nutcracker, will be tapped - and will likely go very fast.
  • Urban Chestnut will be pouring beers that aren't available in KC until spring.
  • Local Kansas City homebrewers will bringing kegs to share.
  • Port Fonda is only a block away, therefore some of the most amazing tacos are in walking/sweating distance.

12 Percent Imports Coming to Kansas

Standard Beverage will officially be distributing brands from 12 Percent Imports in Kansas now. This means you'll start seeing offerings from brewers such as Evil Twin and Stillwater hitting the shelves starting in December. Read the full press release here. Check out their full portfolio of brands here as well. I'm a big fan of importers like these who put a lot of effort into curating a great list of breweries to bring to our shelves.

Shelton Brothers Bringing in Crooked Stave & Prairie

We wrote a few weeks ago that Shelton Brothers Importing is officially returning to the state of Missouri. This coming week they'll be sharing some beers in St Louis and shortly after they should be headed our way here in Kansas City. Along with that, it's been confirmed that we'll start seeing Crooked Stave and Prairie Artisan Ales on the shelves over time, it may not be right away, but hopefully by the end of the year they'll be fully moved in. Look for them to start their first deliveries

Waldo Pizza Hop Vine vs Grape Vine Dinner

I am huge fan of Waldo Pizza - I'm just going to get that out there. The location in Waldo has some of the best curated taps in the city, and along side of it I have yet to see anyone beat their prices. Their pizza is great to boot.

So when I heard that Waldo Pizza was planning a beer dinner, I was very excited. They've exceeded my expectations and will be doing a dinner which each of the 4 courses are paired with both wine and beer - you likely won't be going to work early on Thursday. The dinner is on Wednesday, November 15th - tickets are $50. Head into their taproom if you're interest in buying a ticket. More information is on their facebook page.

2nd Shift Breaking into Kansas City

Up to this point, 2nd Shift has only been available in Kansas City at a few random festivals - which is unfortunate since their a great brewery. Their IPAs are some of the best I've ever had. Well, there is no need to drive to St Louis any more to get your fix because starting next week they're beginning distribution in Kansas City. You can also catch them at the Strong Ale Festival this weekend.
