Home brewing News coming to KC Beer Blog

Home brewing is at an all-time high and becoming a big part of the beer culture and community. When Pat asked for contributors I felt it was time for homebrew to enter the spotlight. My name is David Schumacher and I’m a Homebrewer.

I’ve been home brewing for 3 years. It all started with a basic kit my beautiful wife gave me for Christmas. The kit came with a basic Dry Stout extract kit that I quickly brewed up, waited for the beer to ferment, and bottled up. The first homebrew beer was great, I was instantly hooked and couldn’t wait until I could brew again. This curiosity turned into a hobby and quickly turned into an obsession. I found myself quickly converting to a full-fledged all grain system, buying bulk hops and grain and soon entering competitions. My wife had no idea what this Christmas gift would change my life.

One of the things I love the most about home brewing is the people I have met. Home brewers in Kansas City are by far the friendliest people you will ever meet, they also make some awesome beer. Kansas City Home brewers win medals across the country on almost a weekly basis. What I quickly discovered is there are so many home Brewers in our area. There were over 1000 people that signed up for the Boulevard Wort Transformation, Over 1000!!! We currently have 8 homebrew shops in Kansas City. We have a half dozen homebrew clubs with strong membership. We are now seeing homebrewers take it to the next level, by going professional. It’s an exciting time to be a Homebrewer in Kansas City.

With the popularity of home brewing my goal is to bring you, the beer lover the entire KC home brewing news. I plan on covering club news, competition results, brewer profiles, recipes, brewing articles and more.
