Lagunitas Sucks

I'll bet you didn't expect to see that title on this blog, but we'll get to that in a minute. First, though, it's Lagunitas Doppel Weizen day. That's right, the newest Lagunitas bomber is hitting shelves all over KC this morning. Doppel Weizen means double wheat and the folks at Lagunitas claim it to be a double hefeweizen. But, in true Lagunitas style I would guess it wouldn't fit that neatly into a category. I'm pretty excited to give this one a shot.

Doppel Weizen will be on both sides of the state line and there should be plenty of it to go around so don't get bent out of shape if you can't get out to get it today. Bombers should be around $4 like all the other Lagunitas bombers.

In other news, last week I'd had a discussion about Brown Shugga' when I was trying to figure out if I was safe to make it my playoff beer again. I was told that Brown Shugga' was delayed and threw that in the post about this year's playoff beer, Boulevard Sixth Glass. A commenter noted that Brown Shugga' was cancelled this year and then Adam from Beer News posted the news that it was indeed cancelled.

So what is the Lagunitas winter seasonal to be? In true Lagunitas fashion they're releasing Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale. From Lagunitas:
This beer is a 'Cereal Medley' of Barley, Rye, Wheat, and Oats...Full of complexishness from the four grains, and weighing in at 7.6% abv, Then joyously dry-hopped for that big resinous hop flavor.
This sad holiday season we didn't have the brewing capacity to make our favorite seasonal brew, the widely famous BrownShugga' Ale. You see, we had a couple really good years (thank you very much) and so heading into this season while we are awaiting a January delivery of a new brewhouse we are jammin' brewing 80 barrels of IPA and Pils and such every 3 hours. A couple months back we realized that since we can only brew a mere 60 barrels of Shugga' every 5 hours, that we were seriously screwed. For every case of Shugga' brewed, we'd short 3 cases of our daily brews. The new brewhouse will help insure that this kind of failure never happens again. It's a mess that we can not brew our BrownShugga' this year and we suck for not doing it. There is nothing cool about screwing up this badly and we know it. Maybe we can sue our sorry selves. There is no joy in our hearts this holiday and the best we can hope for is a quick and merciful end. F*@& us. This totally blows. Whatever. We freaking munch moldy donkey butt and we just want it all to be over...Beer Speaks, Lagunitas Sucks.
While I'm going to miss Brown Shugga', and I'm really going to miss it this year, I went to a liquor store last week that I never go to because I heard they still had some from last year, I'm glad to see a new beer. I'm always excited to try new things from Lagunitas, and even though most of them taste pretty close to the same, there's enough new in everything to keep it interesting. I'll just have to enjoy the Lagunitas Sucks this winter and maybe drink a couple extra Nutcrackers.

Lagunitas Sucks won't be out until later this month. So stock up on Undercover Investigation Shutdown for now and get some Doppel Weizen this week to fill your Lagunitas needs.
