Bash Riprock's

I was down in Olathe last night dropping the kids off at their grandparents' house for a couple of days. Talk amongst Stella and her mother drifted to the new bar a couple of blocks from their home called Bash Riprocks. My mother in law said she thought it was one of those 100 beers on tap type places. It was then that my attention turned from the TV.

I casually brought up the place again as we got in the car and Stella said we should drive by. So we headed over there (it's somewhere around 159th and Mur-len, if those streets intersect, honestly I'm as lost as can be when I get that far south). In the same little mini mall a Minsky's recently opened giving us a good option for pizza when the family congregates at the grandparents' house. We pulled around to Riprocks and decided to go in.

I half expected it to be a Flintstones theme bar which would have been AWESOME! Alas it was not. I'll tell you what it was though, mind numbingly average. Riprock's had a pretty nice little bar area and 6 or 7 flat screen HD TV's. It reminded me of a miniaturized The Other Place. It didn't have 100 beers, they barely had 12 and nothing really interesting. I went with a Smithwicks and Stella got a Boulevard Wheat. Service was nice, nothing memorable. What was memorable was this weird manager guy answering phone calls on a cordless phone in the middle of the bar. He seemed unsure of where to stand and he made the vibe in the place a little awkward.

We drank our beers pretty quickly, got our tab and got out of there. I don't know if all bars in south Johnson County are all as sterile and uninteresting as Bash Riprock's, but it sure seems like it. I don't mean to bash this place, it was just uninteresting and sterile. Plus, with a name like Bash Riprock's it wouldn't hurt them to throw up some Flintstones memorabilia and pictures. Who wouldn't want to eat a Mr. Slate brontosaurus burger, Wilma's fried green beans, Pebbles' bread pudding or Fred's bowling alley fries? I would, let's get this done.
