KC Real Ale Fest this Saturday in Lee's Summit

Casks, firkins, pins, oh my!
As the summer of festivals marches on, we've got another one this weekend! The KC Real Ale Festival is in it's second year now featuring (you guessed it!) real ale. The fest will be held at New Longview in Lee's Summit on Saturday from 11a-9p. Tickets are $35 for GA, or $50 for VIP. As of posting this, you can also get 2 tickets for the price of one (GA only) on My Pitch Deals. The VIP tasting will be from 11a-2p, and the GA tasting goes from 2p-9p.

Food will be available from local restaurants before you scoff at the number of casks.and there will be live music throughout the day. The fest is also partnered with the Tour of KC bike race--the crit race course will be just adjacent to the festival and there will be races taking place throughout the day. The finish line of the Gran Fondo course will also be right next to the festival--just in case you're into riding your bike 105 miles and then drinking beer the rest of the day. (I know you're out there!)

The KC Real Ale fest is going to have nine cask beers available and over 70 other brews available. The firkins on tap at the fest will include:

4 Hands - Divided Sky Rye
Empyrean - Watchman IPA dry hopped & with Mango & Hibiscus
Free State - Storm Chaser
Free State - Ad Astra
Green Room - Papa Louie's Golden Jukebox with Raspberry
Mothers - Dry Hopped Doozey
Mothers - Fresh Grapefruit Shandy
Schlafly - Special Release Export IPA
Tallgrass - Ethos dry hopped with Chinook & Simcoe

Now, you might think--a real ale fest with only nine firkins?? Well I will tell you from personal experience--firkins are an enormous pain in the ass and getting even nine together at one time is an accomplishment. They're much more difficult to transport, keep cold, and serve than a keg. The firkin also has to be served off of a beer engine. Beer engines cost around $750 each. So consider the $7000 worth of serving equipment going into the fest while you're quaffing your cask beer.

The weather looks great for Saturday, so go get your half price tickets now and come hang out with us! That cask of dry hopped Doozey is reason enough for you to go...
