Short Pours - 1/8/14

Boulevard News

The 2014 Smokestack schedule was announced by Boulevard. We knew we would be seeing Chocolate Ale in Feburary and Two Joker's return in July, but other notable beers on the schedule are the return of Harvest Dance Wheat Wine in November as well as the next edition of Love Child in July. Check out the full schedule over on their website.

Remember "Test Nelson Grape Ale" that boulevard had in the tasting room and around beer festivals this past year? If you didn't have the chance to try it, it's a golden ale with muscat grape juice added and hopped solely with Nelson Sauvin hops and then fermented with champagne yeast.  They're releasing it in bottle as "Entwined Grape Ale" sometime in the future as a part of the"Backroads" series - no details of what that series will have or when it will be available, but we'll be sure to let you know when we hear more.

Boulevard is also hosting a beer dinner at Port Fonda in Westport on January 29th - paired alongside the amazing food of Port Fonda will be 80-Acre, Saison-Brett, Pop-Up IPA, Long Strange Tripel, and Imperial Stout. Tickets are $45, which is a steal when you consider the cost of going to Port Fonda on any other day of the week. Visit craftbeer.com to find registration info.

Oskar Blues Officially Coming to KS

Beer Pulse reported last week that Oskar Blues is officially expanding into Kansas as well Idaho, Minnesota, Nevada and Delaware. They're scheduled to start distribution during Q1, with no pinpointed date or distributor announced yet. You can read more aboutthe expansion on BeerPulse. This adds to the short list of beers you can only get in KS and not MO, and may be one the first that actually make Missourians cross the state line to pick up.

Bier Station & Louie's Wine Dive Dinner

Wine & Beer dinners having been taking off in recent history, Waldo Pizza had one, The Belfry will be hosting one, and now the Bier Station has plans to host one in partnership with Louie's Wine Dive as well. It'll be a four-course dinner with wine & beer pairings for each course, cost is $65 per person hosted at Louie's Wine Dive. I haven't been up to the Wine Dive yet, but I've heard good things about what comes out of their kitchen. And I know next to nothing about wine , so I'll trust that's good as well. Call 816-569-5097 for information and reservations.

Also, did you hear that Bier Station got a spot on DRAFT Magazine's America's Top 100 Beer Bars of 2013 list, and was the only Kansas City establishment to do so? Congratulations!

Mother's MILF Event
The beer will soon be back on the market and from tweets we read, it's expected the week of the 21st - but that's hearsay. What is not hearsay is that there will be an event at 6:00pm the night of the 16th at Martin City Brewery featuring MILF. No other details of whether this is a full tap take over or not, but we'll let you know if we hear anything.
