Learn To Brew Day

This Saturday, November 2, is Learn To Brew Day. Learn To Brew day was established in 1999 by the American Hombrewing Association as a day to encourage people to homebrew. Groups, Shops, and Individuals will be having events across the country doing demos and tasting homebrew. If you have ever been curious about the process of brewing stop by one of the locally scheduled events:

The boys that brought you the best beer festival in Kansas City, KC Nanobrews, have an event planned and will have several different demos and lots of homebrew to try. I will be there doing a Big IPA with KC Brewing Legend, Robert Rys. Information can be found on their Facebook page.

Apex Brew Wares will brew an all Grain batch and an extract batch as well. They will have some beers on tap to sample and encourage you to bring something you brewed to share. There should be plenty of people on hand to answer questions. Apex will provide some pulled pork for a light lunch. Come on out and hang around with a bunch of great folks! Starting at approx. 11am - 3pm. Store is located in Independence.

Grain to Glass will be brewing their mini-mash kit, "Pocohontas Pumpkin Ale" (ready to share at Thanksgiving)Their demo is indoors, on an induction hotplate. A partial-mash is the next step up from extract brewing; containing at least 3 lbs of grains, with "mash" and "sparge" steps similar to all-grain brewing. It requires little additional equipment (good thermometer, strainer). Medal-winning beers can be made with partial mashes! Stop by to watch and participate, 10 am-2 pm. Store is located to blocks from the RiverMarket in KC

Cowtown Brew Supply is doing their second annual big barrel brew. Cowtown has acquired a bourbon barrel from Boulevard and will be once again doing a Bourbon Barrel Quad inspired brew. For those who got to try this at Nanobrew fest or the Zona Rosa beer festival you know this beer is awesome.Starts at 10am. Only a few spots left but anyone is welcome to hang out. Email info@cowtownbrewsupply.com for more information. Located in the Northland

Grain and Taps will be doing a brewing demo from 10am - Noon which will include sampling of craft beer. If you haven't heard Grain and Taps now carries various craft beer in their store. Located in downtown Lee's Summit.

If you know of any other events please let me know. Also feel free to tweet me pictures of your brew days at @schumacherdavid
