Bier Station Hop Vine Cutting

Though Bier Station has technically been open for over 6 weeks now (and I've spent entirely too much time there), the craft beer bar/bottle shop has not had a deserving "grand" opening event. That all changes tomorrow at 11:30am, when Bier Station will hold a 'Hop Vine Cutting' ceremony to celebrate opening and becoming the Midwest's first combination tasting bar and bottle shop.

It took a community effort to help Bier Station bring a new craft beer concept to the region, and the new business will recognize those who helped at a free, public “hop vine cutting ceremony” 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.

Kansas City Councilmen Jim Glover and John Sharp will do the honors of cutting a ceremonial hop vine, while community members will be encouraged to attend (children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) and enjoy complimentary food from Bier Station’s area partners such as Farm to Market Bread Co. and Three Women & an Oven, as well as coffee from Waldo’s One More Cup coffee shop.  Bier Station staff also will tap a special draught beer offering for sale from Boulevard Brewing Company at the event.

Bier Station is the “best of both worlds” for craft beer fans. By blending a tavern environment with a packaged store, Bier Station enables customers to buy draught beers to drink on site and also purchase packaged beer to take home.  But to become the Midwest’s first tasting bar/bottle shop, Bier Station needed to work closely with Kansas City Regulated Industries, and receive critical support from Glover and Sharp, who helped guide a unanimous City Council vote to amend a city ordinance -- enabling Bier Station to open.

If you have some free time on Saturday, try to stop by Bier Station and give them the "official" welcome to Kansas City by grabbing a Grainstorm (the special draught beer mentioned above), listening to some live Bavarian music and giving owner John Couture a handshake for bringing such a cool concept to the area. Also, drink a lot of Perennial Aria too, there's something beautiful waiting to come on after that keg is kicked. That's all I'm going to say. Just do it.
