Grain to Glass Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition

Hop Fest 2013 is still many months away and the deadline for the KC Irishfest homebrew competition has passed, but luckily another brewing contest has sprung up for all you competitive and feedback-craving homebrewers out there.

Grain to Glass, a new homebrewing supply shop in the River Market, is hosting an Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition, which is focused specifically on 3 BJCP styles:

3B: Oktoberfest/Marzen
15A: Weizen/Weissbier
21A: Spice, Herb or Vegetable Beer

Entries, which only cost $5, will be accepted between October 11th and October 21st, so you have a little under 2 months before you'll need to actually submit anything. Two 12 ounce, unlabeled bottles are required for entry, and the contest is limited to one style per person. Entry forms can be picked up at the shop.

This homebrew contest is unique in that it will be accepting and awarding medals for individual entries, homebrew club entries AND corporate/business entries. There will also be a best in show award handed out, with the prize being a new 18 quart Foxx Equipment dispense box.

Judging will take place on Saturday, October 27th, followed by the store's Bierfest event, where announcing of the winners will take place. Tickets to the Bierfest are $15, and I'm currently trying to confirm whether entrants are required to be present/buy tickets to the Bierfest in order to be eligible to win.

While we're on the subject, if you are a homebrewer, take the opportunity to go visit Grain to Glass (114 W. 3rd Street), who just had their grand opening on August 18th. In addition to offering homebrewing supplies, they'll be offering classes as well. Plus, they currently have a couple unique offers going on: 1) through the end of August, if you purchase $20 or more from the store, you are entered to win a ticket to the great American Beer Festival. 2) Each day, the first customer at the store gets 25% off their entire purchase.

Check out Grain to Glass on their Facebook page for updates and the specific event page for the homebrew contest. Good luck to all who enter!
