Leading a Rusty Horse to beer

We've seen the Kansas City craft beer bar scene expand south recently with the addition of Swagger in Martin City. Now, beer drinkers north of the river will have a new place to enjoy some great brews with the upcoming opening of Rusty Horse Tavern in Parkville.

Taking over the space that used to house Agave Mexican Grill, Rusty Horse Tavern is just a couple miles down 45 Highway from All Star Pizza and Pub, another Parkville craft beer destination. Described by GM Brian Wilson as being 'beer, bourbon and burger focused'. Rusty Horse Tavern will feature 24 taps, with only a single tap being dedicated to macro beer. The remainder will be a variety of craft offerings, and though they are still tweaking the final beer list, some beers that were on the tentative menu included Firestone Walker Union Jack, Founders Dirty Bastard, and O'Fallon Wheach (are your ears burning, Chimpotle?).

In addition to the craft beers on draft, Rusty Horse Tavern will also offer 38 bottles that cover the entire spectrum of beer styles. From Bell's Best Brown to Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour to Founder's Centennial IPA,  it's looking like there will be a nice variety to choose from. Besides the regular beer menu, Wilson plans to have two chalkboards that will feature rotating 'off menu' beers to choose from, and also intends to bring in rare brews on occasion.

And speaking of rare beers, Wilson also noted that he plans to open Rusty Horse Tavern with something highly sought after: a keg of Founders Breakfast Stout.

The current plan is for Rusty Horse Tavern to open for dinner service, the week of May 14th, and then open for both lunch and dinner the week of the 21st. So if you find yourself up north in the near future, make a stop into Rusty Horse Tavern, grab a burger (they'll be made with McGonigle's meat, if that helps influence your decision) and a good beer.

You'll be able to find Rusty Horse Tavern at 6325 Lewis Street, Suite 119 in Parkville. Make sure to also head over to their Facebook page to see pictures and for more updates as the opening gets closer.
