How to Chill a Hot Beer or Soda in 3 Minutes

For Father's Day this might come in handy (or for anytime some unexpected guests show up).How to Chill a Hot Beer or Soda in 3 Minutes. I don't recommend this for any good beer, but for some American lager or grape soda (like I'm drinking right now), this is a helpful tip.

  1. Saw this, and other weirder methods, on Mythbusters a while back. Of course they didn't use the freezer.

Here is the rundown on their no fridge/freezer cooling test.

1st Place- Tie between water/ice and water/ice/salt. Salt may have had a slight edge, but who wants salt on the rim?

    2nd place- Ice alone.

3rd Place- Hit the beer with a fire extinguisher. Worked, not well but it did cool.

4th (and last) Place- Use fire. The original myth was that you could dig a hole, put in the beer, cover with gasoline, and light it off. The flash of flame was supposed to suck up the oxygen in the whole resulting in a temp drop. I don't recall if it worked at all, because I'll drink it warm before I'll light my backyard on fire.
